Natural slate is long-lived but its fixings (the nails) often fail first — which is why old slate roofs “slip”. Clay tiles last well but become brittle with age. Concrete tiles are robust but heavy, and their surface erodes over decades. Understanding what your roof is made of — and how it fails — is the difference between the right fix and a wasted repair.

When should roof tiles be replaced?
Individual damaged tiles: straight away, before water gets in. Wholesale replacement: when tiles are failing across the roof — crumbling, delaminating or repeatedly slipping — rather than in one or two spots.
Can you match my existing tiles?
Usually, yes. Common profiles are still manufactured, and for older roofs reclaimed tiles and slates are often available. Where an exact match is impossible we will show you the closest options.
Is moss on the roof a problem?
Moss itself does not usually damage tiles, but heavy growth holds moisture, blocks gutters and can lift tile edges. If moss is hiding the state of the roof beneath, it is worth an inspection.
